guess wat. gp is the 1st exam. so darcie came out with a brilliant idea. turn this blog to a gp blog. for now. so...
i love the environment. we love the environment. so i start with environment.
examples:
1) Acciona, spanish company -- interested in biofuels, wind, hydroelectricity, but most promising in solar power
2) Finavera, canadian company -- wave energy, and won the 1st US permit to develop wave-energy plant
3) PetroAlgae -- renewable biofuel, by feeding CO2 to algae and harvest the biogas emitted
4) Hycrete -- improves concrete, by reducing non-renewable wastes, toxic chemicals used in construction
5) Levittown, a town in America -- going solar, with regular energy audits to improve on their efficiency
6) Fukuoka, a town in Japan -- green roofs (plants on roofs), cut heat loss by 50% and reduce air-con costs by 25%
HOWEVER (anti-thesis)
1) America -- increasing demand for biofuels, but it causes deforestation as land needs to be cleared for biofuel plantations. Yet America still subsidize
2) Indonesia -- booming biofuel industry, thus more deforestation. now contributing to global warming
3) Urban deforestation -- trees losing the struggle to survive in cities, more unclean air in cities, pollution
4) Climate changes -- linked to the increase in cases of dengue fever
